Plum Island Provisions Now Open

There’s a new convenience store on the island… Plum Island Provisions. Located at 29 Plum Island Boulevard, the former location of Dick’s Variety, has gotten not only a face lift, but revised it’s format. In the overhaul, the newly refurbished interior has added a full kitchen, serving made-to-order hot sandwiches, subs, pizza, seafood, salads and more. The added bonus? They deliver! Opening just before the Labor Day weekend, the ‘provisions’ are a bit limited. Islanders who were regulars of Dick’s Variety will find the smaller shelf space offers much less than previously, but still a convenient place to pick up staples such as bread, milk and cold beverages. Plum Island Provisions is open 7 days a week from 7am – 9pm and can be reached at 978-465-0324. Stop by and check them...
Mad Martha’s Going Upscale?

Mad Martha’s Going Upscale?

Mad Martha’s Beach Cafe, a local island landmark, changes hands again. The cafe, formerly owned by Brad DeLibero, recently sold the business to Kendall Bowie & Kyree Gerson. The former GMs from two Newburyport restaurants have partnered to take over the Cafe and in the process will change the name to “Mad Martha’s Island Cafe.” Since taking ownership, the two have already begun transforming the place. Old customers will notice the improved landscaping, interior paint changes, and the most significantly — the new sign above the entrance. While the restaurant undergoes some cosmetic transformation, the jury’s still out on whether the new updates will attract new clientele while retaining the loyalty of the local following. Maybe it’s gone too upscale? Too early to tell. Stop in and check it out and let us know what you think.
