Just several weeks ago, the $5M dredging and beach renourishment project was completed. The newly replenished beach looked pristine, new fencing surrounding the recently restored backyards of the homes along Northern Blvd. But give nature a week or two and a majority of the sand has been taken away by battering waves and storm surges. Tomas, the hurricane that battered the caribbean a short time ago, decided to migrate north into the atlantic, positined about 1100 miles off of Nantucket, and sit there. Yes, just sit there. The results were high winds, high surf and rip tides up and down the east coast. And the resulting effects to Plum Island was eroded beaches and damaged fencing.
